Is your computer SLOW?
Did you know that dust can be one of the reasons why your computer is behaving sluggishly? A clogged CPU cooler doesn’t allow heat to escape quickly enough, causing your CPU’s temperature to skyrocket. Your CPU is designed to throttle or reduce its performance when it reaches temperatures that could damage it. This throttling can cause your computer to become very slow and is especially noticeable on lower-end CPUs. Sometimes throttling isn’t enough (especially on a hot day!) and the excessive heat will cause the thermal safety system to power off the system completely.
How often should you service your device?
Depending on environment and usage, servicing is recommended at least once a year. Dust, lint or pet hair in the air surrounding a PC unit will vary between households (Keeping a tower on the floor will usually cause it to pull in more contaminants than one on the desk or table-top) so some computers will require physical cleaning more frequently than others. Gaming laptops move large quantities of air between the tiny gaps in the heatsink radiator fins. Dust and lint may accumulate quickly on these devices and they are more at risk of damage from overheating. Smoking cigarettes or vaping near your computer will cause a sticky layer to form on the heatsink and fan blades, causing dust and lint to adhere to them quite quickly (and firmly). Clean-up on these devices can be problematic and time consuming so we may charge extra for tar/vape residue.
How bad can not cleaning your computer be?
In some cases, not servicing your computer can result in hardware failure and the cost of replacing the computer or components can be high. We’ve been in the computer repair business for a long time and occasionally we see some pretty bad cases. We’ve even written a cautionary tale about one of the worst we’ve seen and how a simple computer cleaning could have prevented expensive component failure.

Julian fitted a new screen to my laptop which had been playing up for over a year.
