What you should know about your storage device
Electronic devices may have become more reliable in recent years but they are still prone to failure. If you suspect your hard drive or SSD may have a fault (usually extremely slow, freezing etc) or you have deleted an important file by accident, STOP!! The longer you keep operating the computer, the less likely a full recovery can be made. Also accidentally deleted files may be overwritten. Shut the computer off completely by holding in the power switch for several seconds and seek help. Never try to boot from the affected drive or recover files to it.

Three days before I was to submit my doctoral thesis, my computer screen went black.
