Transferring your data and settings from device to device
Now you have a new computer – how do you get all of your files and settings across from the old one to the new one? Transferring files and settings to your new computer is a relatively simple task but it can still be a bit daunting to the novice. Transferring settings, contacts (address books) and email messages from programs like Outlook, Windows Mail and other programs can be a bit more involved and they sometimes don’t transfer automatically – but we can help.

Why not get us to do the data transfer for you?
If you’d rather not take on the task of data transfer yourself, we’d be happy to help. We’ll copy your important documents, photo, music and movie collections to the new machine for you with a minimum of fuss. Set your email account/s up and get you connected so you can get on with things.

Can programs be copied to the new computer?
Generally, they can’t – a lot of PC programs/apps require the original installation files (usually from a disc or download) to create a fresh installation of your software on the new machine. In some cases we might be able to transfer the software across to another PC but won’t know if it’s possible without trying it out. On Apple Mac computers, it is usually possible to transfer all your programs (apps) together with your data as long as the old apps are compatible with the destination Mac.

Can I retrieve data from a dead computer?
If your old computer won’t boot up or even power on – chances are we may still be able to get your data onto your new device. Let’s have a look at it for you and we’ll let you know.

Wiping your old device
If your old computer is going to go to a new owner or you want to dispose of it safely, you can have us securely wipe the hard drive or SSD on the old machine so your data is inaccessible (and if necessary, re-install your Windows or Mac OS so it’s back to factory settings).

About data wiping
To safely dispose of old hard drives or solid state drives, proper ‘data-erasure’ or ‘secure erase’ is favourable. This is also the case if you wish to sell or give away an old computer containing business documents, financial information, photos or other sensitive material. Simply deleting the files in Windows or formatting your hard-drive/SSD does not completely get rid of them. Readily available data recovery programs may be able to recover the deleted files and gain access to your sensitive information.
